This truck escape ramp is located on US-89 above Garden City, where vehicles descend a long, steep grade toward Bear Lake. Heavy trucks on this section frequently experience high brake temperatures, especially during summer tourism peaks and winter snow conditions. The escape ramp provides an emergency arresting zone for vehicles that lose braking capability on the descent. Because the corridor has restricted shoulder width, the site uses a compact net-based arrestor system designed to stop runaway vehicles within a short distance where a traditional gravel ramp is not practical.
