The Utah Department of Transportation is constructing a new truck escape ramp on SR-158 west of Powder Mountain Resort near Eden, Utah. This installation uses Impact Technologies’ CatchNet truck escape ramp system to give truck drivers a controlled, predictable way to stop if they lose their brakes on the steep downhill grade.
Powder Mountain Road carries heavy traffic on a long, sustained descent with grades up to fourteen percent. Before this project, the corridor experienced multiple serious runaway truck crashes tied to brake failure. The new escape ramp channels out-of-control vehicles into a concrete chute and into a series of energy-absorbing cable nets that wrap around the vehicle and safely bring it to a stop.
This site will serve as a key demonstration of modern truck escape technology in mountain terrain and is part of UDOT’s broader safety strategy for Ogden Valley routes.
